Ingredients: 

two white eggs

1/2 tsp salt and 

1/2 tsp cream of tartar

Half a cup of white sugar

Two crushed peppermint candy canes



Directions:


1. Set oven temperature to 225°F, or 110°C. Put foil on two cookie sheets.

2. Beat the egg whites, cream of tartar, and salt together in a sizable glass or metal mixing bowl until soft peaks form. Add sugar gradually while beating the whites until stiff peaks form. Drop on the ready cookie sheets by spoonful's, spacing them one inch apart. Over the cookies, scatter crushed peppermint candies.

3. Bake for 1 1/2 hours in preheated oven. Meringues should be completely dry on the inside. Do not allow them to brown. Turn off oven. Keep oven door ajar, and let meringues sit in the oven until completely cool. Loosen from foil with metal spatula. Store loosely covered in cool dry place for up to 2 months.
